Childhood Days
Shivakumara Swamiji was born on April 1st, 1908, Veerapura, Magadi Taluk, Bangalore District, Karnataka, India. His parents are very religious and holy, Sri. Honnegowda and Smt. Gangamma. He was the youngest among 13 children and named shivanna became Shivakumar Swamiji later.
Shivanna used to visit shivagange almost every week, which made a tremendous impact on him. Shivanna also desired to know about siddaganga kshetra and Sree Uddana Shivayogigalu, the Siddlingeshwara deity, and the caves around Siddaganga. His mother promised to take siddaganga during the Shivaratri festival when Sree Uddana Swamiji would hold a Car Festival.

Education
Swamiji completed his school in Veerapura Koolimath, Palanahalli Koolimath, and Middle School Education in Nagavalli, Tumkur district. He completed his high school in Tumkur. He was also a resident student of Sree Siddaganga Math and received spiritual blessings of Sree Uddana Shivayogigalu. He passed Entrance Examination and joined Central College, Bangalore in the same year, finished his Bachelor of Degree in Arts in 1930 with Physics and Mathematics as Major Subjects. At the same time, India was ruled by the British, and very few had the opportunity to achieve higher education like this. Even though not from a wealthy and prominent family, he has known the importance of education, and since his childhood days was very attracted to a religious theme and Sanyasa.
Shivanna to Sree Shivakumara Swamigalu
When he was studying at central college Bangalore tragedy news came to him on 16 Jan 1930, his close friend Sri Marularadhya at siddaganga Mutt was no more, who has to be the next head of Mutt. Shivanya was very sad with this news, later completed his last rites of Sree Marularadhya.
In the meantime, Sree Uddana Shivayogigalu went to Caves and immersed with deep thoughts for the next successor of the replacement of Sree Marularadhya. People in and around the Mutt started discussing Shivanna will be the next successor of Mutt. Meanwhile, Sree Uddana Shivayogigalu announced that Shivanna would be the next successor of Mutt. Shivanna accepted his offer later. He renamed as “Sree Sivakumara Swamigalu.” Then he came back to college to finish his studies to Bangalore.
Daily Routine
For Swamiji day starts at 2:30 am. In the morning, Swamiji used to maintain dairy for appointments and to work himself. After completing morning chores and taking a bath he used to do pooja till 5:30 am. Later he would attend the meeting with devotees in office or reading the newspaper if they arrived.
Shivakumar Swamiji is very simple and used to work 18 hours a day, sleeps only 4 hours a day from 11:00 pm to 2:00 am.
- 2:30 am – 3:30 am Study of Vedas, Shastras, and philosophy.
- 3:30 am – 5:30 am Meditation, pooja followed by breakfast.
- 6.30 am. Comes to the office for reading newspapers, office work various development and administrative works of the Math and Sree Siddaganga Education Society.

Secret of his health
At the age of 110 also, he has not affected his Eyes with a bright and sharp vision. He meticulously maintains his routine and attends the program on schedule.
Swamiji’s eating habits were simple. He used to eat two small Idli with nonspicy dal or coconut chutney without chilly and a piece of fruit for breakfast. For the afternoon, he used to have ragi ball with the curry made of Green Gram dal or tur dal and buttermilk, In nights one or two Rotis or uppittu without onions and chillis. He was never ever suffered from indigestion in his lifetime. He was walking without the support and very agile and brisk in his steps.
