Goravanahalli Lakshmi temple is all surrounded by awesome greenery in Tumkur district, Karnataka. This main temple deity is Goddess Lakshmi known for prosperity and wealth, other gods are Goddess Marikamba, Manchala Nagappa (the snake god).


There is Theetha Reservoir near the temple. People who visit the temple also visit Reservoir. It is built for the Suvarnamukhi river, one of the good attractions in Goravanahalli.

History of Goravanahalli temple is that Abbayya, a poor man has blessed with the fantastic idol of goddess Lakshmi. After worship, he became wealthy and started doing charity works in his home called “Laksmi Nivasa.”

Later after the death of Abbayya, Thodappa, his brother started doing pooja for goddess Lakshmi. He was asked by Goddess Lakshmi in his dreams to build a shrine for her. Hence, Thodappa built a temple for Goddess Lakshmi. Later Chowdayya started performing pooja but from the year 1910. the temple was in a neglected state. In 1925 kamalamma saw the temple in a neglected state and started performing pooja. Again after a year, it was still in the neglected state later she shifted to goravanahalli. After these people began coming to the temple by word of mouth, Tuesday and Friday are an auspicious day for pooja. Lakshadeepotsava is one religious program that performed during the month of Kartika masa.
