Madhugiri is one of the educational districts in Karnataka, It is one of the towns in the Tumkur district, Madhugiri name is derives the name from honey + hill (in Kannada Madhu betta).
Madhugiri is a single hill and has the second largest monolith hill in entire Asia. This place is most famous because of hills and temples.

Madhugiri Fort History
Madhugiri fort is built by Vijayanagar dynasty, fort is perched by steep slope of the hill. There are 3 ways to reach this fort Antaralada Bagilu, Diddi Bagilu, and mysore gate are the 3 gates to fort.we can see the destroyed Gopalakrishna temple at the top.
The original mud construction was made around 1670AD, interested incident happended to consider for gowda family to build the fort.
A stray sheep went missing around madhugiri hill only to return late with dripping water, This was definitely good to hear to ears as the music of water dripping in the rain deficinet area, decision was made and later construction of fort got completed.Gowdas started ruling this region.
Madhu giri once also known as Maddagiri, once a hundred years ago, the monolith and the surrounding greenery of madhugiri is one of the main attractions. The place also had two temples Venkataramanaswami and Malleshwara built in dravidian style by Vijayanagara feudatories.
The highlight is a Rock dome on top of the hill has Gopalakrishna temple, there are series of door ways which you an climb to reach the top.(Normally it takes 4 hours to ascend.)
There are basically 3 sections which you get while climbing
1. Antaralada Bagilu (30 mins trek)
2. Diddi Bagilu (45 mins trek)
3. Mysore Gate (55 mins trek)
you need to trek small distance from mysore gate to reach top.
